Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how the GetOffThatScreen app (“the App”, “we”, “us”) handles your information.

The short version

• Your Screen Time data stays on your device. We never collect it, never send it to a server, and never sell it.
• If you use the AI coach, the text you type is sent to our processing service and our AI provider so it can reply.
• If you join a group, a small amount of accountability data (your name, avatar and daily goal ✅/❌) is shared with the other members through Apple’s iCloud (CloudKit).
• We have no username/password accounts and no advertising or tracking.
• You can erase your shared group data any time in the App.

What stays on your device

• Screen Time / app usage (Apple FamilyControls & DeviceActivity). With your permission, the App uses Apple’s Screen Time system to block apps and enforce the limits you set. Apple keeps this data on your device in a protected form; the App cannot read your exact app-by-app minutes, and none of it is transmitted to us or anyone else.
• Your plan, limits, blocks, streak, settings and saved recaps are stored on your device. They also back up to your own iCloud account (Apple’s key-value storage) so your data follows you to a new device. This lives in your iCloud — we have no access to it.
• Notifications. With your permission, the App schedules local reminders (e.g. the weekly recap and group nudges). These are generated on your device.

What is sent off your device

1. AI coach messages

When you chat with the AI coach, the text of your messages and the context needed to answer (such as your goal and current limits) is sent over a secure connection to our processing service (a Cloudflare Worker we operate) and on to our AI provider, Anthropic, to generate a response. This is used only to reply to you. It is not linked to a real-world identity (the App has no account), and is not used for advertising or sold. See Anthropic’s privacy terms at anthropic.com/legal/privacy. If you don’t use the coach, no message data is sent.

2. Group (“Social”) data — only if you create or join a group

Groups are powered by Apple’s iCloud (CloudKit) — there is no separate server we run and no account to create. When you are in a group, the following is written to a shared CloudKit database so the other members of that group can see it:

• your display name and avatar (an emoji you pick),
• your daily goal result each day (whether you stayed under your goal — ✅/❌), days tracked, current streak, your goal in minutes, and your level,
• a pseudonymous iCloud user identifier that Apple assigns (this is not your name, email or Apple ID, and we cannot use it to identify you in the real world).

We never share your exact screen-time minutes (Apple never makes them available to the App), your coach chats, or which specific apps you use. If you turn off “Share my goal status” in Settings, you still appear in the group by name but no statistics are shared — you show as “Hidden”. Groups are joined with a private 6-character invite code.

Purchases

Subscriptions are processed by Apple through the App Store. We never see your payment details. The App only stores whether you currently have an active subscription, on your device.

What we do NOT do

• We do not sell or rent your data.
• We do not use third-party advertising, analytics, or tracking SDKs, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
• We do not require a username/password account, your email, phone number, contacts, or location.

Data retention & deletion

• On-device data stays until you delete it (or use “Reset all data” in the App) or delete the App.
• Group data in CloudKit: you can remove it any time. Use Settings → Privacy → “Delete my shared group data” (or “Reset all data”) to delete your member records from every group you’ve joined and leave those groups. Leaving a group also deletes your member record for it.
• Coach messages are processed to generate a reply and are subject to our AI provider’s retention terms; we do not maintain our own database of your chats.

User-generated content & reporting

Group and display names you enter are visible to other members. We filter obviously objectionable names on your device, and every group member can be hidden or reported from within the App (Report opens an email to support@getoffthatscreen.app). We review reports and remove abusive content or members. If you see something, report it — we act on reports.

Your rights (incl. GDPR / EEA)

Because the App keeps your personal data on your device, in your own iCloud, and (for groups) in a shared iCloud database you control from within the App, you can exercise your rights directly: edit your data any time, and erase it with “Delete my shared group data”, “Reset all data”, or by deleting the App. For any request about data processed via the AI coach, or questions about this policy, contact support@getoffthatscreen.app. If you are in the EEA/UK, you have the right to access, correct, delete, and object to processing, and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (in the Netherlands, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).

Children

The App is not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided data (e.g. a name in a group), contact us and we will remove it.

Changes

We may update this policy; we’ll change the “Last updated” date above and, for significant changes, note it in the App.
